The DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) uses two electronically controlled clutches. One clutch manages one set of gears while the other prepares the next gear. This allows the gearbox to pre-select the next ratio and change gears very quickly, while still providing automatic operation for normal driving.

Mercedes-AMG designed the 8-speed gearbox with closely spaced ratios to keep the engine in its effective power range. The gearbox can operate automatically according to the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving mode, or the driver can manually change gears using the steering-wheel paddles.
